Re: Incompatible infrastructure/ No vacant pair availble

Hi Telstra support team,

I have read the conversations above and I have the same situation as Sean_Ping right now. I just moved to an apartment last April 25 and I applied for tpg adsl with home phone package earlier which is April 14 so that they can do all the line check before I move to the apartment. But I received an email from tpg on April 20 saying that there is no vacant pair available- No Telstra infra in my unit. They said they will resubmit my application on April 30 and do another line check.on May 4, I got the same email reply from tpg. I called the customer service and they mentioned that they will resubmit my application and monitor until they have a successful line check. Now my question is, if this is the kind of message I receive, will the line be available ever? Or will I just wait for nothing? Is Telstra gonna need to install an infra in my apt unit? Coz as far as I'm concerned, I have neighbours that are currently connected to tpg so I don't understand why I keep on receiving such email response. And why is it not possible to apply in my unit only while other apt units can?

ADSL keeps on disconnecting every few minutes

Hey Everyone,

I'm so fed up with the ADSL connection i have right now. It keeps on disconnecting every few minutes, and re-connects and disconnects once again. Can't get any work done and it's simply frustrating.

I complained to Telstra regarding the issue and they sent a technician, did something to the connector box and gave me a replacement router (Technicolr TG797n v3) and the problem still persists. They said the modem is one of their top of the range modems and it just work as expected.  I just can't pin point where the issue is, authentication at the router, the telephone cable, at the telstra exchange. I even registered the router once again but no luck whatsoever.

I've changed the channel to 13 from 7 or 8 which it was previously.

I have been a Telstra customer for 13 years and this service is really appaling. To top all that, i get a relatively mediocore 1-2 Mbps download speed when at the router it connects at 10 Mbps (at times). At the time of writing it's connecting at 7.9 Mpbs at the router.

This is part of the log from the router. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. I am not paying Telstra so much of money every month for a service like this.

Re: how to get adsl2+ in Penguin TAS

Hey happy4,

First and foremost, welcome to CrowdSupport!

Regarding ADSL2+ availability, there are usually two things that will prevent a connection, distance from the exchange, or the lack of an available port.

If you are too far from the exchange, the signal degradation caused by the distance involved will mean that any service we provided would barely be worth the frustration. Generally speaking we will service properties up to 4 Km from the exchange where we can (most other providers won't go beyond 2), but this will depend on local conditions.

The more likely scenario is a lack of available ports. Due to the limitations of the technology involved, there is a maximum capacity any given exchange can provide in terms of ADSL services, and if an exchange is at capacity, the only way a new service can be connected is if another one gets disconnected. This is probably why your neighbours were able to get it and you now cannot. We do publish planned exchange upgrades and port availability reports here: https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/products/broadband/adsl/adsl-reports-plans.html but these will not reflect disconnections or connections made since the report was published, so should only ever be used as a guide.

Where a port is not available, you have two options as to how you can proceed. First, you can cancel your order outright, and it sounds like this has happened. Second, you can elect you have your order held until a port becomes available, this should have been offered to you at the time you were told the service couldn't be provided.

Apologies for the frustration, I hope this clears things up a bit. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Finally I have had some clear information from my case manager. The delay has occurred because Telstra sat on my ADSL order, doing absolutely nothing with it, for more than the 10 day window that the churn process allows. They lost their chance so now have to go through an escalated procedure with my old provider, which requires giving the latter 5 working days notice.

If (a big if!) all goes according to current plan, I will have a connection on Friday. It will have taken Telstra 4 weeks to simply churn an existing, connected, functional ADSL connection. This has happened because it has just allowed my order to languish, despite my spending many hours on the phone to them trying to get something happening. Telstra, in my experience, is an utterly worthless company. It has treated me (supposedly a paying customer) with complete contempt. I return the favour.

Hi CrisB,

Appreciate the time taken today to provide us with an update on what is going on with your order. This certainly isn't what we like to hear our customers' experiences are like and trust it will be resolved for you soon. The feedback will not go unnoticed and I can assure you this will be passed on.

Should you wish to provide further feedback you can do so via https://www.telstra.com.au/contact-us/feedback-complaints, where a Case Manager will contact and liaise with yourself in regards to this for a resolution to be met

Thank you for the information dump that enabled me to work my way through to the response I was looking for. It is apparent that Telstras target for ADSL2 availablity in my area is 30 June 2016.

If I could find the star you have suggested I click on to acknowledge your assistance I would gladly do so but like so many things Telstra, its presence is suggested but the reality is there was nothing there that a moderately competent person could expect to locate. Now consider this in the context of the data I have had to get through to identify that I live in CA5 Map BELM DA26 which is fed from QBELME101M and it might be apparent I am more than capable of finding my way through some of the Telstra data maze (my 35+ years there were not completely wasted). Now I will site and wait in the hope that what is indicated will actually materialise. GD

Slow ADSL2+ Speed

Hi all,

i am having real trouble with my connection speed in the Samford Valley Qld and have been for 3 years.

I have tried multiple service providers and revereted back to Telstra as they apparently own the lines used to service my house.

the common excuse i get is that as i am on the boundry between the Samford Valley and Highvale exchanges it is just too bad and it is what it is.  Telstra have sent techs out to trouble shoot and the best they get to the pole out the front of the house is 1.8mbps, my conection is aledgedly ADSL2+ but as you can gather i get nothing of the sort. Our house is only 24 kms out of the CBD and i get better internet speeds in the middle of the desert 140kms away from the nearest town when i am at work.

i get 0.8mbps upload speeds at an average at the house.

i also tried wireless service via Telstra over a year ago but cancelled that as was not much better.

i have enrolled in Uni this year and need a reliable internet service conection as i am doing the course part time external.

i would like some advice as to how i can get telstra to act and fix this issue permanently as i continually get the run around from the help desk and then when they come to fix the issue they close it out and say its fixed.

this is now getting beyond a joke and Samford is not even on the NBN role out plan as yet.

Please provide some real workable solutions.

Cable in a new apartment building

$

Hi There,

I am about to move into my new apartment as an owner. When I enter the property address into your availability checker it shows as cable is active in the area and I can order it, however, when I enter my unit number and the property address it only shows me ADSL 2.

A bit of background:

Cable is available in the street, it was available to the houses that previously sat on this land, its available at neighbouring properties but not mine.

I have spoken to the builders and even the building data/electrical guy who both advised the building has been pre-wired for foxtel cable and cable internet.

I am at a loss as to why I have wasted 4 hours on the phone to try and order my new cable broadband. My family has been customers of Telstra for years and have been extremely patient with recent outages but I am losing my patience.

Please let me know what I can do to get cable available.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi AdamTelstra,

I sumitted a complaint a while back, so I have a case manger. To be honest that is the one mitigating factor of my current situation with Telstra -- my case manager has been very good about tracking down what's going on with my order. It's only his helpfulness that has prevented me taking this to the TIO.

If this is a good venue for offering feedback, although I'm annoyed by my order's slow progress, the main thing I'd emphasize is communication. Delays can always happen, but a customer shouldn't be forced to spend as much time as I have trying to find out what's going on.

Even more specifically, the order status page at https://www.my.telstra.com.au/myaccount/track-my-order is particularly deficient. The message it gives re the delay is:

We're sorry, but your order has been delayed. We're working on completing it as soon as we can. We'll contact you if we need more information.

Not only did I have to find this page myself, the actual message is vague and in obvious contravention of the TIO requirements for providers. To quote from https://www.tio.com.au/about-us/position-statements/transfer-of-services:

The consumer should be kept informed throughout the transfer, especially when there are problems causing a delay. The gaining provider should tell the consumer the reasons behind any delay, and what is being or must be done to complete the transfer.

I think this would be useful to pass up the feedback line. Ideally in the event of a delay the customer should receive regular status emails, including some specifics as required by the TIO in the quote above.

Hopefully once I'm connected again Telstra might regain my trust.

Cheers.

Slow DNS resolution (and browsing)

Howdy

I am having issues with consistently slow DNS resolution times, often leading to page time out. It has been happening for a few weeks but is now at the point it is barely usable.

All my devices are effected, over wireless and ethernet cable. I have reset the modem and devices countless times.

I can't hard configure alternative DNS servers on my modem (Netgear CG3100D-2), however when I configure alternative DNS servers on my individual devices the issue resolves.

I have tried getting support using 24x7 but times which are convenient for me are "unsually busy" for Telstra (unusually busy seems to be Telstra's usual?) and "significant delays" when I attempt to call.

The troubleshooting tool was of no help, it has given me a reference number and instructions to call but when I call I am advised of significant delays...

I'd like to know why DNS resolution is so slow for my service and what can be done to permanently fix it (other than me hard coding alternate DNS IP's on all my devices).

Ta,

J.

Sorry, I'm not good at this terminology. Of course, I meant the distance from the exchange point (not a node). It's ADSL.

Unreasonable time to connect Telstra Broadband

$

Hi

I ordered Telstra Broadband on 28 March, 2016.

I received a text message stating that I would have my cable and telephone connected by 07 April, 2016.

Technician turned up on 07 April, 2016, and couldn't do the job because "underground cabling required", then left after 15mins. (I took the day off to be there on site).

I called Testra to see when the connection would be ready - No one knew anything or could tell me even an approximate time for when the contractor would arrive. I was told something along the lines of "We can book a time to call you in three weeks to let you know when they are coming", "They are contractors and we dont have visbility of when they do their work"

Then - lo and behold - a contractor turns up (unnanounced - my wife nearly ran him over as he was wandering around our front yard at 7:45am). No notice, no phone call, no text message on 28th April (three weeks later) to do "underground cable work".

Rings me and says - all good, but you need someone else to come and do the connection.

Then - it's like a comedy show - Telstra automated call centre rings to confirm an install date of 9 May, 2016 between 1pm and 5pm. All good, get the time of work ready to go. But then I think - this organisation isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, I better call to confirm, before I rush home and take another half a day of work off for nothing. So get in contact with the call centre this morning "Oh, yea, the job has been PUT ON HOLD.... they couldn't get the cable in" OK... so I get a confirmation to say its all good and happening and ONLY because I call to confirm do i find out it's been cancelled.

So - I call this contractor back to ask what is going on - he struggles to communicate and says - text me the address i cant remeber the job (well it was a whole 2 weeks ago, how many jobs could he have possibly have done?) No response.

Anyway - I don't think I've ever in my life (38 years) experienced such a disfunctional, disorganised, unhelpful, misiformed, bad service.

But wait - there is still more - I just received a BILL for my SILENT LINE of $4.50 or whatever - for a line THAT HASN"T EVEN BEEN INSTALLED.

I mean, seriously, it's 2016 last time I checked. It's a year where mobility, automation and robotics are meant to be transforming the workforce? What are these guys running the business with? Are they on horse back? Are they taking credit card payments with carbon copies? How hard is it to connect a cable to the street a whole 11 meters?
