So I was aware that there was work being done earlier today around my area, however now i can't use certain sites or programs. The status moved to completed yet I can't launch certain games on PS4 (internet only) and desktop apps or use google. Before today I never had issues. I really don't want to be put on hold for 45minutes on the phone just to be told to reset my modem so if anyone can advise further that would be great.
Hi cLashez,
You don't happen to be in the Bentleigh/Bentleigh East/McKinnon/Ormond area of Melbourne do you? We had work done here for network upgrades on Thursday the 10th. Ever since, our cable broadband has been rubbish.
I'm experiencing similar issues to you with Google. Email through Outlook is sporadic (on three PCs). It will not connect for most of the day and then it suddenly downloads a heap of messages all at once. Most of the time I get error messages (on all three of the PCs) to say that the connection to the server has timed out or has been interrupted. Although more recently messages that the server does not support the encryption type specified have entered in the 'mix'.
Netflix was playing up on Friday and Saturday, but seems to have settled. iTunes struggles to download videos without stopping to buffer, i.e. it'll halt 3 or more times for a music video (usually it is very quick).
In addition, I am having problems achieving connectivity for certain PC-based and other device apps at all. Games like Asphalt Airborne will not connect at all through our Apple TV. Steam will not connect on my PC. The Virtual World Second Life (where I'm involved in the global education community) has not connected through cable on three different PCs since Thursday.
All apps on my PC (email, Steam, Second Life) work fine when connected to the internet through my tethered iPhone. Asphalt Airborne also works fine when the Apple TV is connected with a tethered phone.
I spent about an hour on the phone to Telstra on Friday night. Prior to contacting them I restarted everything (modem and devices) a number of times (including disconnecting the cable and leaving the modem off for more than 10 minutes).
The tech on Friday night got me to restart my modem around 4 times (including one factory restore restart). She played around with my email settings for ages. Despite mentioning it to her more than once, she didn't try to troubleshoot any of the other apps that aren't connecting. In the end, her advice was to reinstall Outlook on my PC. I told her that I thought that was unnecessary to reinstall anything given the connectivity issues are replicated on several devices simultaneously - and it was more likely there is a Telstra cable connectivity issue than all apps just happening to fail at the same time!
Let me know if you've had any luck resolving your connectivity problems. It seems weird that certain apps (mainly those that are game or media related) were causing problems for both of us at the same time.
