So I have been going well over my data on my phone so decided to get connected to ADSL. Decided TPG was the best option for me and signed up.
It was confirmed that my house had been connected to Telstra at some stage (built in the 1940's). I did explain I had no phone sockets at all throughout the house.
TPG organised a Telstra tech to inspect/fix my lead in to the first socket...he took a 10 minute look and gave me the following options.
1 - Use the overhead Optus cable (previous owners used this I beleive) as it would be quicker and easier to connect.
2 - Sign up with Telstra. But I would though need to run conduit up the front of my house, under my front yard, into the nature strip first. Then a Telstra tech would run cable along the nature strip from the pit and connect using this conduit.
3 - not have home Internet.
He also said that the original lead in which is some old cable with a lead center wouldn't be suitable. It was also said that since previous owners (or maybe Optus) had damaged the connection it was no longer a Telstra responsibility.
Well needless to say I'm not the happiest camper at the moment. And I don't wish to be paying thousands just to have Internet connected. I am more than happy to pay a standard fee to have the lead in fixed to either the wall of the house or the first socket. But given there is a Telstra pit in my driveway and an existing lead in cable (although be it ancient) I find this situation rather ridiculous.
